Pedaling on an Eco-Friendly Spanish Wine Country Bike Tour

Waking up early with slightly overcast skies I grew concerned the wine and bike trip I had scheduled with Wine Pleasures might be postponed. However, as I pulled up to the meeting spot my fears were put to rest as the group had just finished unpacking the bikes from the trailer.

The Wine Pleasures team led me to my trusty steed, a white and black mountain bike that appeared to have been put to good use. As we left the parking lot to begin our tour of two vineyards in the Penedès I fleetingly thought back to adventures with my childhood Schwinn. Leer Más »

Craving Cava in the Penedes

With Cavas Berdié winery on a hill in the distance, we peddled our way through the Penedes countryside with vines and prett flowers all around us lead by Anthony, wine country bike tour guide at Wine Pleasures and organizer of the tour. While it was a cool day in Catalonia, we still worked up a sweat going uphill for the last 200 meters of the ride.

Welcoming us as we arrived were spectacular views of vineyards below and the town of Vilfranca del Penedes in the distance. An even better welcome was the perfectly chilled glass of Cava Brut Rupestre and the warm greetings from the winery owners- three siblings native to the area – Sergi, Roberto & Marta. WINE PLEASURES ANNOUNCES JAM-PACKED PRE-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE

All plans are in place for the exciting two-day event leading up to The 2011 International Wine Tourism Conference

Barcelona, Spain – July 20, 2010 – Wine Pleasures has announced a busy line up of winery visits, tastings, and dinners to take place during the two-day Pre-Conference Event preceding the 3rd Annual International Wine Tourism Conference this winter. A small group of Pre-Conference attendees will have the opportunity to travel the Vinho Verde wine region in Portugal the weekend before the conference officially kicks off on January 31.

On Saturday, Sandeman Porto Cellars will provide attendees with an exclusive tour of the famous Port producer to learn more about their internationally renowned wines. The following day, attendees will visit more Portuguese wine producers, including the Quinta de Santa Maria & Quinta do Tamariz winery, Quinta do Casal do Paço, and Sala Ogival at ViniPortugal. A Tribute to the Spanish Summer Peach

At home, I try to get most of my produce from farmer’s markets, but in Spain I decided to go straight to the farm itself.

The Olivella-Font Clara peach farm is located in heart of the well known Penedès & Cava wine producing region of Spain in the hamlet of Lavern, just 45 mins from Barcelona. Most of their crop is ready to pick by the end of June, and the season lasts until the end of August. Leer Más »
