CW Selection Aims to Sparkle US Wine Lovers

CW Selection at Wine PleasuresWe had a chat with Christine Lee, the President of CW Selection about why she got involved in the wine trade and what she is looking for at the upcoming ‘Buyer Meets Spanish Cellar’ workshop. 

CW Selection is a new business; can you please tell us about the business and why you decided to get into the wine importing trade?

I got into the wine business because I wanted to contribute and help the vine-growers, farmers, wine-makers and to distribute interesting wines to US consumers.  I view wine as part of life to enjoy them with family and friends at meals.  We aim to bring interesting and good quality wines to the US at an affordable price at the moment.  

What is your specialty?

Our specialty is selecting interesting wines (good-tasting) with attractive packaging and a good story behind them and being able to promote that brand among NY consumers.  We focus more on building the brand. 

Being based in Brooklyn, can you please tell us about the wine preferences and consumption in the area?

Although I am based in Brooklyn, my majority customer base is in Manhattan.  In Brooklyn, it varies depending on the neighborhood.  But there are more families than single people in Brooklyn compared to Manhattan, thus it creates different demand.  But they seem to lean toward sweet red wines and some sparkling wines. 

At the 2011 workshop, what types/styles of wine will you be on the lookout for?

I will be looking for medium/heavy-body red wines and sparkling wines and Rose. 

What wine will you be uncorking this weekend?

I will be uncorking Cotes du Rhone and sparkling rose CAVA this weekend. 

 Christine will be in Spain at the ‘Buyer Meets Spanish Cellar’ workshop on the 9-11th of November 2011.
