Bodegas Tempore (IGP Vinos de la Tierra del Bajo Aragón) has grown from the passion for wine enjoyed by the Yago Aznar family, which, following generations of viticulturists, has extensive knowledge of the vineyard and knows that the quality of a wine must be based on excellent raw materials. Elena Hernández Hibbert is the Export Manager for Bodegas Tempore and is representing the winery at the 2011 edition of the “Buyer Meets Iberian Cellar” Workshop in Barcelona.  We asked her a few questions about the winery and their wine.

Your motto is “Respect for the land, Passion for wine”.  How do you show respect for the land?  Where did you get your passion for wine? Our motto is “Respect for the land, Passion for the wine” because this is exactly how we work and how we feel about our work.

Respect for the land because we practice organic agriculture in all of our vineyards, they have all been certified as organic for the last 10 years. Passion for the wine because it’s been a part of our lives for four generations. Our grandfather had a winery in the 1940’s and since then, every member of the family has been involved with wine.  It’s a part of us.

What are some of the challenges you’ve faced in getting your wines into the hands of consumers?  The challenges are that there is obviously an enormous offer in the market, however, we find that we still stand above that challenge once they see it’s a different wine to what everyone is used to. We like challenges and we know that a competitive market is always good in order to strive for excellence.

What makes your wines stand out?   Excellent quality grapes grown in this unique land, they carry the soul of this land and we turn it into wine with all of our efforts and passion.

What can you tell us about the kind of consumers who drink your wine? Our consumer’s profile is a person who is interested in new producer areas, in traditional grapes as Garnacha, and also are young people looking for good quality wines and competitive prices.

How would you compare the workshop methodology at Wine Pleasures to a large-scale wine trade fair?  What are the strengths and weaknesses of both?  We trust that this workshop methodology is more efficient and it helps to meet the client before we meet in person. It can be better than large scale ONLY if those chosen visitors are properly chosen. Large scale events are normally less efficient, however, you are exposed to many more clients and these too are completely necessary events. I hope to give you a more clear answer once the event finishes, however, we trust and we have the feeling it’s going to be a fabulous event!
